Chapter 10: Failed Attempt at Showing Off Backfires:

Shi Wushuang was momentarily speechless, utterly unprepared for Li Ye's audacious remarks. In their circles, it was unheard of to demand repayment from a former partner after a breakup; such actions would undoubtedly become the subject of ridicule. Yet, given the circumstances, Shi Wushuang couldn't back down.

"Very well," he declared. "Whatever amount His Highness has spent on the Qin family, I shall reimburse you."

Li Ye clapped his hands in admiration. "As expected of Yunlu Pavilion's esteemed Young Master Wushuang—truly magnanimous. I am impressed."

Shi Wushuang stood proudly, basking in the unexpected praise from his adversary.

"Xiao Cui," Li Ye continued, "calculate the total amount we've expended on the Qin family over the years. Exclude minor expenses like meals and clothing; focus on the properties and significant expenditures."

Xiao Cui promptly responded, "Your Highness has invested a total of 189,000 taels of silver in the Qin family, covering the purchase and renovation of their residence, settling their debts, and funding their household expenses over the years."

Shi Wushuang's eyes widened in disbelief. "This is preposterous! Are you attempting to extort me?"

Xiao Cui replied coldly, "Every expenditure from the prince's residence is meticulously recorded. If you doubt the figures, I can detail each transaction for you."

She then began enumerating each expense: settling the Qin family's debts, purchasing and renovating their residence, and providing substantial monthly allowances for their household needs. Each transaction was accounted for with precise dates and amounts.

The onlookers were astonished. While it was common knowledge that the Sixth Prince and Qin Qingxue had been close, none had imagined he had invested such a fortune in her. This revelation painted Li Ye not as a miser, but as a devoted benefactor.

Hearing of the prince's unwavering support, many began to reassess their opinions of him. Previously, some believed that after Qin Qingxue's military achievements and subsequent honors, she had outgrown Li Ye. Now, it was evident that without his assistance, she might never have reached her current stature. The Qin family would likely still be mired in debt, and Qin Qingxue might never have ascended to the upper echelons of society.

"Who would have thought the Sixth Prince harbored such deep affection, investing nearly 200,000 taels over the years?"

"Indeed, his dedication is undeniable."

"Qin Qingxue's actions seem somewhat ungrateful. If she didn't reciprocate his feelings, why accept his support?"

"It's understandable to part ways if feelings change, but such a substantial sum should rightfully be repaid."

Overhearing these murmurs, Qin Qingxue's face turned ashen. Her attempt to confront Li Ye had backfired spectacularly, casting her in an unfavorable light. No longer was Li Ye seen as petty or vindictive; instead, she appeared ungrateful. The revelation of his significant financial support left her feeling humiliated and resentful.

Clenching her teeth, she glared at Li Ye, her eyes blazing with fury. Internally, she seethed:

"He's doing this deliberately to disgrace me publicly!"

"This is his way of exacting revenge!"

"Li Ye, if you think this will make me yield, you're sorely mistaken. This only deepens my hatred for you!"

Li Ye, meanwhile, was inwardly jubilant. An unexpected windfall had presented itself, and he saw no reason not to seize it.

"Young Master Wushuang," he addressed Shi Wushuang, "do you have any further questions regarding these accounts?"

"It's truly commendable that you're willing to settle the Qin family's debts."

"Given the substantial amount, I'll grant you a month to gather the funds. I'm confident that, for the honor of Yunlu Pavilion, you wouldn't consider reneging on this obligation."

Shi Wushuang glared at Li Ye, his fists clenched in frustration. The prospect of parting with nearly 190,000 taels for the sake of appearances was infuriating. He had intended to use his savings to acquire a treasured sword, but now those funds would be diverted to repay Li Ye. Yet, in front of so many witnesses, he couldn't retract his commitment.

With a cold huff, he retorted, "As a disciple of Yunlu Pavilion, my word is my bond. The silver will be delivered to your residence."

"Henceforth, I expect you to cease any actions that undermine Qingxue. Otherwise, prince or not, I won't hesitate to confront you."

Li Ye responded calmly, "I abide by the principle of mutual respect. As long as I'm left in peace, I have no interest in causing trouble."

Mr. Xiao, though silent, observed the exchange with a satisfied smile, approving of Li Ye's assertiveness. In their line of work, standing one's ground and seeking justice was paramount; enduring humiliation was not an option. Had Li Ye chosen to meekly accept the situation, Mr. Xiao would have lost respect for him.

Shi Wushuang led Qin Qingxue away, his expression dark and stormy, wanting nothing more to do with Li Ye.

Qin Qingxue felt a pang of unease. It was evident that, despite agreeing to settle her debts, Shi Wushuang was displeased.

"Rest assured, Young Master Wushuang," she murmured. "I will repay you as soon as possible.
