Chapter 28 (1/2): Everything You Want, You Will Have
“Momo,” Meng Chu crouched down and reached out to stroke Momo’s head.
The little guy seemed just as excited to see her, wagging his tail wildly as if responding to her.
Meng Chu cupped its face with both hands, gazing seriously into its large eyes.
“Thank you for coming to see me.”
At that moment, the man who had been leaning against the car door leisurely strolled over step by step.
But as he approached and heard her words, he couldn’t help but smile wryly.
He looked down at the crouching figure and asked slowly, “Just thank it?”
Meng Chu looked up at him, her eyelashes lifting gently as she squinted, her large black eyes fixed on him, exuding a pure, innocent charm.
It was an unintentional kind of allure.
Cheng Jinyu put one hand in his pocket, but the cicadas chirping loudly in the tree nearby suddenly made him feel irritated.
What month was it now?
Cicadas were still calling out?
“I also thank you,” Meng Chu said, clearly happier.
Cheng Jinyu hummed and nodded slightly.
But his eyes drifted to her slightly open collar. She was wearing a top with a rather low neckline today, which wouldn’t have been an issue if she were standing normally.
But given their current angle…
Cheng Jinyu tilted his head to the side and spoke in a sharp, indifferent tone, “Want to take it for a walk?”
“Sure,” Meng Chu said as she stood up.
She picked up the leash lying on the ground and said to Momo, “Let me take you for a stroll around my community.”
It was nearly nine o’clock, and the main roads of the community were already devoid of cars and people.
Everything felt very quiet.
Meng Chu held the leash while Momo trotted ahead, and Cheng Jinyu walked by her side.
The two of them with the dog.
Anyone who saw them would think it was a perfect scene.
The late September evening breeze in Shanghai was cool and pleasant as it brushed against their skin.
The fatigue accumulated over the day, and even the overexerted spirit seemed to ease slowly.
Neither of them spoke.
When they reached the intersection of the main road, Meng Chu suddenly pointed to the side.
“Shall we go play at the community fitness plaza over there?”
Cheng Jinyu glanced at her and, though silent, raised his chin slightly.
A subtle but clear signal telling her to lead the way.
Seeing his laid-back demeanor, Meng Chu didn’t insist and led both him and Momo toward the fitness plaza.
As expected, the place was almost deserted.
Even the nearby children’s playground had no kids playing.
“Momo, do you want to try this?” Meng Chu saw an empty single-walk machine — the kind where you alternate stepping on pedals.
She lifted Momo onto one of the pedals; fortunately, his size barely allowed him to stand.
“Don’t move, I’ll rock you a bit,” she whispered.
Thankfully, Momo was well-behaved, standing still.
Meng Chu gently pushed the machine back and forth.
Cheng Jinyu leaned against a nearby machine, eyes half-closed, lazily watching her play with Momo.
At first, Momo seemed a little tense, but gradually he seemed to enjoy it, tilting his head and barking twice.
In fact, dogs, like children, often bark excitedly when having fun.
After playing for a while, Meng Chu let Momo go off and play by himself nearby.
Since there was no one else around, his running wild wouldn’t disturb anyone.
Meng Chu walked slowly to Cheng Jinyu’s side and suddenly asked, “Are you worried about something?”
“How did you tell?” Cheng Jinyu smiled faintly.
Meng Chu answered frankly, “You look a little down, like you don’t have much interest.”
Cheng Jinyu raised an eyebrow slightly and said softly, “Isn’t it relaxing?”
Meng Chu was stunned.
“Nothing to do, just enjoying the evening breeze and the quiet,” Cheng Jinyu said with a calm expression.
Meng Chu hadn’t expected such poetic words from him.
Suddenly, she felt those words were unexpectedly moving.
So she stood silently beside him, saying nothing, quietly enjoying the peaceful evening breeze.
After a while, Momo, having played enough on the distant grass, ran back and started circling them again.
“Momo, if you keep running around here, I’m going to get dizzy,” Meng Chu said, feeling dazzled.
Border Collies were fast, and at night, she only saw a blur darting around her.
But Momo was so excited he ignored her completely.
Only Cheng Jinyu quietly called out, “Momo.”
Surprisingly, with just those two words, the overexcited dog obediently ran over to his side.
Meng Chu couldn’t help but praise, “You really know how to train him well.”
But right after saying it, she pressed her lips together.
She was… talking nonsense again.
“You’re not bad either,” Cheng Jinyu said, adding lightly.
As expected.
Meng Chu felt like she easily fell into the same trap, getting teased by him in return.
Today…
In the brief awkwardness, Cheng Jinyu took the initiative to say, “Shall I walk you back? You have a busy day tomorrow.”
Meng Chu hadn’t expected him to remember.
She thought for a moment and asked, “Do you want to come and watch tomorrow?”
Cheng Jinyu raised his thin eyelids and glanced at her.
Seeing this, Meng Chu quickly added, “It’s okay if you don’t want to come. It’s the weekend, so resting is better.”
“Who said I don’t want to come?” Cheng Jinyu raised an eyebrow.
Meng Chu was momentarily speechless.
Alright.
She replied too quickly and sounded like the invitation wasn’t sincere.
“You drank with people from Linjiang Group last time too,” Cheng Jinyu casually asked as if just thinking about something.
Meng Chu hadn’t expected this question; she nodded, “Yes, but I was only coordinating with a department manager named Qian Wei, not Zheng Qifeng.”
Cheng Jinyu said, “Zheng Qifeng’s people are fairly upright.”
“My biggest fear is that I’ve set up everything for the banquet, and if Mr. Zheng doesn’t come, it’ll be troublesome,” Meng Chu sighed softly.
Obviously, she had gone through great trouble to arrange this event with half the company involved.
If Zheng Qifeng came, that would be great; if not…
Forget Gu Ting, she wouldn’t even know how to face the others.
But her sigh didn’t last long; she quickly comforted herself lightheartedly before Cheng Jinyu could say anything, “Actually, I’ve thought about it. Shanghai isn’t only Linjiang Group. Even if cooperation with Linjiang Group fails, I can still look for automobile or 3C manufacturing companies to partner with. As long as I work hard, there will always be opportunities.”
“Don’t worry,” Cheng Jinyu walked up beside her and reached out to ruffle her hair.
Meng Chu was slightly stunned.
Whether it was because of his gesture or something else, she fell silent.
After a long while, she opened her hands and smiled lightly, “Sorry, I suddenly feel like a spoilsport, bringing up work when it’s such a comfortable and leisurely evening.”
“No problem. I like listening,” Cheng Jinyu said softly, his eyelashes lowering slightly.
Meng Chu was startled again.
Between them, a subtle silence settled.
–
The next day.
Meng Chu arrived at the club early. Although she had rehearsed perfectly yesterday, she still felt uneasy.
Especially because the video material was going to be shown today.
This was not a simple project presentation; it didn’t require overly complex data.
Besides, the audience today was children, so the content shouldn’t be too difficult.
The event was scheduled for the afternoon.
By noon, people had gradually started arriving.
Colleagues from Xingyuan’s Engineering Department had come to help, even though the algorithm programs for the performance were already set.
Just in case, the Engineering Department sent several staff to assist.
The Operations Department was fully mobilized.
Perhaps because Manager Wang saw this as a rare opportunity, members were widely invited to participate.
The event was to begin at two o’clock.
By 1:30, quite a few children had arrived.
The weekend Long-term Training Class at the Tennis Club usually had many children.
Plus, the club also had a gym and a swimming pool. Even those who didn’t book tennis courts came to work out or swim.
Many who hadn’t planned to join the event came because of the lively atmosphere.
“Mom, look! That’s the robot dog!” A little boy pulled his mother over, eyes fixed excitedly on the robot dog lying on the ground.
At this moment, the robots and robot dogs delivered by Xingyuan were all in standby mode since the event hadn’t started yet.
The boy seemed very interested in the robot dog and reached out to touch it.
A nearby staff member from the Engineering Department immediately stopped him, “Kids, you can’t touch it recklessly.”
The boy quickly withdrew his hand.
His mother looked a little embarrassed, “Sorry about that.”
“It’s fine,” Meng Chu came over and told the staff, “Kids are naturally curious about machines. I’ll take care of it here. You go do something else.”
After the staff left, Meng Chu bent down slightly and smiled at the boy, “Do you really like the robot dog?”
The boy nodded eagerly.
“Go ahead and touch it. It’s very sturdy,” Meng Chu said warmly.
The boy’s mother, seeing Meng Chu’s friendly demeanor, said, “Ever since he learned about the robot performance at the club this weekend, he’s been so excited.”
“Kids, especially boys, do love AI intelligence,” Meng Chu understood well.
The boy couldn’t wait and asked, “When will the robot dog start moving?”
“The event hasn’t started yet. When it does, you’ll get to see the robot dog and robots perform. And there will even be chances for kids to go on stage and interact with them,” Meng Chu explained kindly.
The boy immediately raised his hand high, “Sister, I want to interact with the robot and robot dog!”
“Then you need to listen carefully later. If you answer questions correctly, I’ll pick you,” she said.
The boy became even more excited.
He turned to his mother, “Mom, call dad quickly or he won’t see the robot show.”
“He’s on the phone now; he’ll be here soon,” the mother reassured.
Meng Chu smiled, “Don’t worry, the event starts in ten minutes. Your dad should make it.”
The boy pouted, “Sister, you know how much my dad loves talking on the phone. He always talks for a very long time.”
The boy’s mother chuckled, “He’s a bit busy with work.”
Meng Chu nodded, “I understand.”
After chatting a bit, she excused herself.
Looking around, the chairs in the venue were almost full.
But when she scanned the crowd, she didn’t see Zheng Qifeng.
She planned to find Manager Wang to discreetly ask if Zheng Qifeng would show up.
After all, only minutes remained before the event.
